Virtual Room Parents

Who’s ready for school to start? How about distance learning? Ya… Us, too.

We are making a strong push to help out every classroom with a volunteer Virtual Room Parent that can help guide families to get and stay connected during distance learning and help the teacher with technology transition, as needed. The goal of this volunteer community is to enable our teachers to focus on teaching instead of allowing simple software questions to tie up learning time, or worse, leave kids out of a virtual classroom lesson.

Here’s what we envision a Virtual Room Parent would help with:

  • Become a point person for parents in your child’s classroom to communicate with for “where do I find the website address for” type of questions that might take away time from your teacher’s instruction,
  • Help a family/student get oriented to Zoom,
  • Share and direct parents to helpful resources to trouble-shoot technology issues at home, or
  • Remind parents where to go when technology issues are beyond what a Virtual Room Parent or Teacher can assist with (i.e. NMUSD help desk or local internet providers).

To help our community, we’ve created a Tech Center with information that includes:

  • Videos and tutorials on the various educational technology apps and websites
  • Virtual classroom rules
  • How to create the best learning environment for your child
  • Quick access to the NMUSD technical support contact info
  • and any additional resources that our teachers or Virtual Room Parents feel would be helpful to our school community during this distance learning stage.
